SOPA/PIPA protest: 4.5 million signed Google petition
The LA Times reported some of the numbers we, the SOPA/PIPA opposition, accrued on Wednesday’s day of protest.
Avaaz.org reported 1.458 million signatures (now 2.3 million and still climbing) on their petition. Sopastrike.com and AmericanCensorship.org, both run by Fight for the Future, reported that at least 350,000 million people sent emails to Congress through their sites.
The White House Blog reported that 103,785 people signed petitions through the We The People website asking the president to protect a free and open Internet.
And last but certainly not least, of particular interest to WordPress bloggers:
WordPress, said that at last count, 25,000 WordPress blogs had joined the SOPA and PIPA protest by blacking out their blogs entirely, and another 12,500 used the “Stop Censorship” ribbon.
Impressive. And now that we have Washington’s attention, we must keep at it until they kill SOPA/PIPA once and for all.
